So instead of using the initial money generated from the original version of Fortnite, Epic hasn't addressed any of the major criticisms of Save the World - all the while using the funds from original Fortnite to further develop Fortnite BR.ĭon't get me wrong, I'm glad that Fortnite BR exists, and that it's been pulling in people who would not have played video games in the first place. Fortnite BR was immediately free-to-play, and the original vision of Fortnite that was in development for 6 years got sidetracked, and was eventually renamed to "Save the World." Hot on the success of Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, Epic quickly used development funds from Fortnite to create Fortnite BR in September 2017. There was a lot of negative feedback on the progression system of Fornite - how it relied too much on RNG to progress in that game. When the original early access for Fortnite launched in July 2017, paying money for one of their packs was the only way to play it. There is an argument that since publishers are getting more money from their sales from the Epic Games Store, that they can use that money to improve their games. I don't want to have to keep rebuilding my friends list each time there's a new games launcher. In fact, as a long time Steam user, buying third party games on The Epic Games Store is more of a hassle due to losing all of those things that I listed above. Games aren't cheaper on the Epic Games Store because publishers get to keep more of their profits. Most of my game mods and Workshop items are on Steam.Īnd most importantly of all, most of my PC games are on Steam.įor a third party game like Ashen, I would like to have them on Steam.Įpic Games only taking a 12% profit cut from sales is great for publishers. Most of my achievements, stat tracking, and leaderboard data are on Steam. It doesn't allow for fans of your game to buy your game on a platform that they prefer. But to force your consumers to only 1 digital storefront isn't competition. Competition is good, and it's good when Steam gets more competition. What upsets me is when those other choices limits my own options. And I'm glad when there are more choices out there for places to buy digital games.
I'm glad more of the general public is playing video games due to Fortnite BR. I'm glad that Epic Games has found their cashcow in Fortnite BR.
